Nelson Container Launch and what the heck?
Nelson Container is a long time client of MMT. Last week was the launch of a site upgrade to NelsonContainer.com. There were several challenges with their old site. First, it was in tables and the code was bloated. Second, there was no CMS, so they had to pay for little updates. Finally, the site didn’t related to their current marketing efforts.
In order to resolve the first issue I reprogrammed the site using CSS. Thanks to a little tidbit I learned from Jason Santa Maria at the An Event Apart Chicago conference, I created the site to be very modular. Divs have class names like “column_2_wide left.” This is a block that spans 2 columns and is floated left. Simple concept that will help to do quick design tweeks and when it comes time to redesign again, I won’t have to rethink my structure as much.
The CMS challenge was a no brainer. With a tight budget, getting a customized CMS was not an option. A friend, Martin Defatte, recently turned me onto using WordPres as an easy CMS for clients. This allows the user to easily make any changes they desire, plus the ability to blog and post news.
Finally, Nelson Container is running a “We box everything Wisconsin” campaign via email. You’ll see graphics throughout the site that correlate to the campaign.
As for MY site, I’m having designer’s block. It will get updated and have portfolio section. PROMISE.
